Nobody can book a hotel inside Angkor Wat, or inside the rest of the archaeological park. The closest real hotels are in Siem Reap, on the north side of town: Rok Rak Street at the edge of the park, Kok Chak commune, Charles de Gaulle Boulevard and Preah Sihanouk Avenue (the roads people mean by the Angkor Wat road), and Road 60 beside the ticket office. A tuk-tuk from Pub Street to the temple is the 20–25 minutes in our sunrise guide. Hotels on that north road are a shorter ride on the same road. This page does not invent a minute for each driveway.
The rule is older than the booking sites. A Royal Government decision of 16 September 2004, still published by the APSARA National Authority, makes the land in Zones 1 and 2 of the Siem Reap–Angkor sites state public property. Residents who already live there may stay, repair a house, and pass property inside the village. Selling land so a company can open a hotel, a restaurant, or a karaoke bar is prohibited. Visitors do not sleep in the monument. You sleep in the city and you ride in.
How far, in kilometres we will stand behind: OpenStreetMap driving on 28 October 2026, empty-road model, rounded to a tenth of a kilometre. Angkor Wat is the pin our temples map already uses, about 7 km north of the Old Market. The ticket office is the OpenStreetMap point named as the Angkor Park ticket office on Road 60. Angkor Enterprise’s published line, quoted on that map, is 4 km from the centre of town. Our driving check from the Old Market pin was about 5.4 km. Those are different start points, not a contradiction to argue about at 4:45am. The office is on the way. Drivers stop without being asked.
The car model also returns about 9 minutes for the Old Market to Angkor Wat, and about 5 to 9 minutes for the hotels below. Ignore those minutes for planning. A tuk-tuk is slower, the ticket stop takes time if you do not already hold a pass, and the only tuk-tuk clock we repeat is the sunrise guide’s 20–25 minutes from town. Closer hotels shorten that ride. They do not cancel it.
Closest hotels to Angkor Wat
Ten hotels, each with a working official site on 28 October 2026. Order is the driving distance to Angkor Wat, shortest first. Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra and Jaya House River Park are already in our hotel notes. The other eight are here because the pin is genuinely on the north side, not because a booking site said “near Angkor Wat” about a room on Pub Street.
The price tier is a four-step label, not a nightly rate. We do not print a dollar figure for a room.
- $ — a bed-and-breakfast or guesthouse.
- $$ — a full hotel whose site does not give a star count we could use.
- $$$ — the site says four-star, or it calls itself luxury without a five-star claim, or it is an upscale boutique with no star count on the page.
- $$$$ — the site says five-star, or it is an Aman or a private-pool villa resort.
No ratings. We did not pull a fresh Google score for these properties on build day, and a number we did not check does not go on the page.

Templation Angkor Resort
Where: Rok Rak Street, Sangkat Sla Kram, Siem Reap. Distance: about 3.3 km to Angkor Wat and about 2.9 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$$. Its location page calls it the high-end resort closest to the Angkor Archaeological Park, and the stay is private-pool villas rather than a standard room.
This is the hotel for the shortest run in the set we measured. Most of the 50 spaces have a private pool, and the site’s own line is “minutes from Angkor Wat.” You will not walk to dinner. Eat at the resort or ride back to town. A 2025 factsheet on the same operator’s site calls it the closest resort to Angkor Wat. That is their claim. Our check made it the shortest drive among the named hotels below, which is not a census of every guesthouse in the province. Official site.
La Maison des Bambous
Where: Sangkat Kouk Chak, Siem Reap. Distance: about 3.6 km to Angkor Wat and about 5.4 km to the ticket office. Tier: $. A bed-and-breakfast. The site publishes seasonal rates; this page does not copy a number.
The honest budget bed on the north side. The site, in French, says it sits between the town centre and the temples, and that both are reachable by bicycle. It is close to Angkor Wat and farther from the ticket office than the Charles de Gaulle hotels, because the pin is north of town rather than on Road 60. Suits someone who wants a simple room and does not need a resort pool or a conference breakfast. Official site.
Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort
Where: Vithei Charles de Gaulle, Khum Svay Dang Kum, Siem Reap. Distance: about 3.8 km to Angkor Wat and about 2.7 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$$. The hotel’s own site marks it with five stars.
The garden resort already in our where-to-stay guide: lagoon pools, a golf course, and the road north. Accor’s page for the hotel says the temples are 10 minutes away. That is their clock, not ours. Families do well here. The evening is the resort or a tuk-tuk, which is the whole tradeoff of this boulevard. Official site.
Regency Angkor Hotel
Where: Vithei Charles de Gaulle, Phum Mondul III, Khum Slorkram, Siem Reap. Distance: about 3.8 km to Angkor Wat and about 2.8 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$. The site calls itself a luxury hotel and also says the rate is meant to be affordable. We did not find a five-star claim on the page we read, so it stays a step under the hotels that print five stars.
Same boulevard as the Sofitel, a full hotel rather than a villa estate. Suits people who want the temple road without a private-pool rate. Nighttime is still a ride to Pub Street. Official site.
Shining Angkor Boutique Hotel
Where: 560 Group One, Kok Chok Commune, Siem Reap. Distance: about 3.9 km to Angkor Wat and about 3.4 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$. A boutique hotel. The site does not print a star count we could use.
Quiet residential district, two saltwater pools, and the site’s own description: midway between Angkor Wat and the city centre, a 10-minute bicycle ride from the temple. The bicycle time is theirs. Suits a couple who want a pool and a short ride, not a conference resort. Official site.
Tara Angkor Hotel
Where: Preah Sihanouk Avenue (road to Angkor Wat), Siem Reap. Distance: about 4.0 km to Angkor Wat and about 3.0 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$. The site calls itself a 4-star hotel.
A large hotel — the site says 213 rooms — on the avenue it calls the road to Angkor Wat, with the Angkor National Museum a short stroll on their telling. The same about page says the temple is 6 km away. Our driving check says about 4.0 km. We print both. Different start pins and a round number will do that. Do not turn either figure into a walking time. Suits a group that wants a proper hotel still on the way out of town, with the centre closer than it is from Templation. Official site.
Jaya House River Park
Where: River Road, Treang Village, Slor Kram Commune, Siem Reap. Distance: about 4.4 km to Angkor Wat and about 2.6 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$. An upscale riverside boutique. We did not find a star count on its site, so $$$ is our label for that kind of hotel, not a quoted nightly rate.
One of the hotels we already send people to for the service. It is north enough that the ticket office is a short hop, and it is on the river, so the evening is not a resort dining room unless you want it to be. Suits couples who want both a shorter sunrise ride and a walkable night. It is not the closest door to the monument. Official site.
Sala Siem Reap Hotel
Where: No. 297, Boulevard Charles de Gaulle, Siem Reap. Distance: about 4.5 km to Angkor Wat and about 3.5 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$. A full hotel opposite the Angkor National Museum. We did not find a star count on the pages we read.
The compromise address. The site says Angkor Wat is 6 km away, Pub Street is a 20-minute walk, and the Royal Gardens are 300–400 metres. Our driving check says about 4.5 km to the temple. You are on the road north and you can still walk toward dinner. You are not at the gate. Suits a first trip where the night matters as much as the 4:30am pickup. Official site.
Amansara
Where: Road to Angkor, Siem Reap. Distance: about 5.0 km to Angkor Wat and about 3.9 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$$. An Aman resort. The tier is the category, not a rate from the page.
The splurge on the road north. Closer than the Old Market, not as close as Templation or the Sofitel. Suits someone who wants that hotel and will not miss stepping out to Pub Street. The address on the resort page is simply “Road to Angkor, Siem Reap.” Official site.
Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Center
Where: Road 60, Angkor Cultural & Tourism Complex Junction, Phum Trang, Sangkat Slorkram, Siem Reap. Distance: about 5.1 km to Angkor Wat and about 1.0 km to the ticket office. Tier: $$$$. The site’s title calls it a 5-star luxury resort.
This is the ticket-office hotel. The contact page publishes the Road 60 address above, and the same site offers a free evening shuttle to the city centre. That shuttle is the practical clue: Pub Street is not outside the door. A block of promotional lines on the site also says “heart of Siem Reap” and “walking distance to Pub Street.” Those lines do not match the address or the shuttle. We follow the address. About 1.0 km to the ticket office in the driving check, about 5.1 km to Angkor Wat. Suits families, and anyone whose morning is the temples and whose evening can be the hotel or a short ride. It is also built for conferences. Official site.
National Road 6, west of this cluster, is a different decision. Anantara Angkor, Empress Angkor, and Angkor Miracle are operating resorts with official sites, and the same driving check put them about 9 to 10 km from Angkor Wat, which is farther than the Old Market. A big pool out there is not “near the temple.” We left them off the list on purpose.
The neighborhood version of this choice, including Wat Bo and the river, is the where-to-stay guide. The full curated set is the hotels page.
Near the ticket centre, or in central Siem Reap
Two honest bases. They are not the same morning.
Road 60 and the Angkor road
You gain the sunrise. The gate at Angkor Wat is the one that opens at 5:00, and the reflection ponds fill early. A shorter ride is a real advantage when the alternative is crossing town in the dark. Sokha is the hotel that is actually beside the ticket office. Templation is the hotel that is actually beside the park. Charles de Gaulle and Preah Sihanouk are the boulevard in between: Sofitel, Regency, Tara, Sala. You buy the Angkor Pass on the way, or you bought it the afternoon before, which is the version that works.
You give up the walk to dinner. Pub Street, the Old Market, and the riverside restaurants are a tuk-tuk. Resort restaurants are convenient and priced like resort restaurants. The evening shuttle some of these hotels run is an admission that the centre is somewhere else. If the trip is three nights and two of them are about food, this side of town will frustrate you by nightfall.
The river and Pub Street
You gain the city. Old Market and Wat Bo are where you walk to dinner, and the where-to-stay guide is written for that. The sunrise still happens. You leave earlier. The 20–25 minute tuk-tuk is the cost, and it is a small cost next to a week of walking home.
You give up the shortest possible dawn. On a one-night stay, or a trip that exists for the sunrise photograph, the extra kilometres are the thing you will feel. They are not a reason to pretend a hotel on Sivutha Boulevard is “at Angkor Wat.”
Sunrise logistics, either way: pass in hand before you sleep, shoulders and knees covered, and a driver who has been told the hotel name the night before. Hours for the gate are on the opening hours page. The ponds and the 5:15 fill-up are the sunrise guide. Phnom Bakheng at the end of the day is a different clock.
Getting from your hotel to the temples
A tuk-tuk in the park is a day hire, not a fare per temple. The tuk-tuk guide puts a Small Circuit day at about $20–25 and a longer day at $25–35, agreed before you leave, paid at the end. The same driver for three days is the version that works. Hotels will call one. PassApp and Grab are for hops in town, not for a circuit with waiting time.
From a hotel on this list the shape of the morning is: lobby, a few kilometres, ticket office if you still need the pass, then the Angkor Wat gate. From Pub Street it is the same shape with more city in the middle. Say the route out loud. “Sunrise, Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, back after lunch” is a complete brief. The Angkor Wat page is the temple. This page is only the bed.
If you would rather not negotiate the tuk-tuk, these are sunrise products with hotel pickup, re-checked on Viator on 28 October 2026. Ratings below are Viator’s combined averages, shown to two decimals. The Angkor Pass is not included. Prices move with the date you pick.
The first is the small-group sunrise or sunset day. The second is that operator’s private sunrise. The third is a highlights-and-sunrise day. The fourth is a private sunrise whose listing, when we opened it, said pickup at 5:00am and a return around noon, with Bayon and Ta Prohm after the temple. None of them put you in a room inside the park.
Budget stays and luxury picks
If the budget is the point, start with La Maison des Bambous and then ask whether a simpler room near the Old Market is actually cheaper once you add the evening tuk-tuks. A $ room 4 km from the temple is not a bargain if you ride to dinner every night and the resort next door has the only pool. Shining Angkor and Sala are the step up: real hotels, pools, still on the north side, without a five-star rate.
If the hotel is the point, Templation is the gate, Sofitel is the family resort on Charles de Gaulle, Sokha is the ticket-office resort, and Amansara is the quiet luxury room on the road north. Jaya House is the one we would pick for a couple who want the service and a river evening and will accept being a kilometre or so farther from the causeway than Templation. Tara and the Regency cover the large-hotel middle, four-star language on Tara’s site, “luxury, affordably” on the Regency’s, both on the way out of town.
Book the November–February weeks ahead. Green season is when these resorts discount and the moat in the photograph is full. Khmer New Year in mid-April is the week the city is busy or shut. None of that changes the map. The park still has no hotel, and the road north is still the short ride.
FAQ
Can you stay inside Angkor Wat?
No. You cannot book a hotel inside Angkor Wat or the rest of the archaeological park. A 2004 Royal Government decision, still published by the APSARA National Authority, prohibits buying land in Zones 1 and 2 to open hotels. People who already live in the villages inside those zones may stay. That is not a hotel for visitors. You sleep in Siem Reap and ride in.
How far is Angkor Wat from Pub Street?
About 7 km by road from the Old Market, which is the block Pub Street sits on. That figure is the temples map’s OpenStreetMap check, and the same model on 28 October 2026 returned about 7.1 km. The sunrise guide’s planning time for a tuk-tuk from town is 20–25 minutes, leaving around 4:15am. The empty-road car model is shorter than that. Use the tuk-tuk time, not the car model, if you are sleeping near Pub Street.
Is it better to stay near the temples or in town?
Stay near the temples if the sunrise ride is the thing you want to shorten and you are happy eating at the hotel or taking a tuk-tuk to dinner. Stay in town, Old Market or Wat Bo, if you want to walk to restaurants and Pub Street every night. Siem Reap is small. The where-to-stay guide’s point still holds: the neighborhood changes the trip more than the kilometres suggest. Nothing on this list puts you inside the park.
Do hotels arrange sunrise tuk-tuks?
Yes. The tuk-tuk guide notes that hotels keep trusted drivers on call, and the desk is the normal way to book a 4:30am pickup if you would rather not flag one yourself. The sunrise tours earlier on this page are hotel-pickup products. The private sunrise we opened on Viator on 28 October 2026 says pickup at 5:00am. Confirm the night before, whichever you book.
Where do I buy the Angkor Pass if I stay near the temples?
At the official ticket office on Road 60, or online. Not at the temple gate, and not from a desk that is not Angkor Enterprise. The pass guide has the prices: $37 for one day, $62 for three, $72 for seven. Buy it the afternoon before a sunrise so the queue is not your morning. Sokha is about 1 km from that office in our driving check. Hotels farther south still pass it on the way out. A pass bought the same morning at 4:45 is how people miss the sky.
How early should I leave for sunrise from a hotel on the Angkor road?
Angkor Wat’s sunrise gate is published at 5:00. The sunrise guide tells town hotels to leave around 4:15am for a 20–25 minute tuk-tuk. A hotel on Charles de Gaulle, Rok Rak, or Road 60 is a shorter ride on that same road, so you are not owed a 6am departure. Leave early enough to be at the gate when it opens, with the pass already in your hand. We did not time each driveway, so this page does not print a minute for each hotel.
Are there budget hotels near Angkor Wat?
The bed-and-breakfast in this list, La Maison des Bambous in Sangkat Kouk Chak, is the one we could verify with a working site in the closest band. It is about 3.6 km from Angkor Wat in the driving check. Most of the doors actually nearest the gates are resorts. A cheap room on Pub Street is often a better budget base than a cheap room that is only slightly closer and still needs a tuk-tuk at night. The site publishes its own seasonal rates.
Is Charles de Gaulle the same road as the ticket office?
No. Charles de Gaulle Boulevard and Preah Sihanouk Avenue are the northbound roads hotels use as “the Angkor road.” The ticket office sits on Road 60, a little to the east, at the junction Angkor Enterprise and the Sokha address both point at. You pass one, then the other, on a normal sunrise run. They are not the same driveway.
Hotel names, street addresses, star language, and the “minutes” or “6 km” claims are from each hotel’s official site, read on 28 October 2026. Driving distances are OpenStreetMap routing the same day, from those pins to Angkor Wat and to the OpenStreetMap ticket-office point on Road 60, rounded to 0.1 km. They are an empty-road model. The 20–25 minute tuk-tuk from town is the sunrise guide, not a new measurement. The ban on new hotels in Zones 1 and 2 is Royal Government decision 70/SSR of 16 September 2004, as published by the APSARA National Authority. The “4 km from the centre” line for the ticket office is Angkor Enterprise’s figure, via our temples map. Viator ratings, review counts, and from-prices were read on 28 October 2026 and are shown to two decimals. We did not publish a hotel star rating we could not find on that hotel’s site, and we did not publish a Google score.
